In order to install artificial golf greens properly, you need to level the ground, add a crushed aggregate base, add padding, place the turf, add infill, and roll the turf to get the best playability and to make it look realistic. Instead, we must struggle with stones, clay, or soil overrun with roots from plants and trees nearby in many locations. Digging alone can become grueling work. Worse, if you are digging into roots, you could be killing surrounding plants you might want to keep.

On many of our turf installations, we’ve faced obstacles like large boulders, old (or new) irrigation lines, tree stumps, just to name a few. Each of these items have to be removed or repurposed. Excavation can also produce tons of soil you do not want — where would you go with it? We often have to ship this unwanted soil offsite.

• A crushed aggregate base, which, unlike concrete, can be moistened and molded to form challenging breaks and undulations.
• Next, we install a cushion pad, at a minimum, to assist the ball roll and shot absorption, then we bring in our state-of-the-art polypropylene turf material that’s used to recreate the vibrant green color, softness, and playability of real grass.
• The turf is then in-filled with a formulation of fine-coated silica sand that gives it the touch and feel of real grass.
• Finally, roll the tops to make the effect of natural bent grass green. Options available are the installation of first and second cuts fringe, bunkers, sand traps, roughs, and fairways.
