Why hiring professionals matters, and why Southwest Greens of Nevada is the industry leader for installation practices.
You might be asking yourself, “Can I install artificial grass myself?” While it’s possible you can install artificial grass yourself, it isn’t an easy feat. The tools and equipment you would need cost a lot, it takes a long time to DIY, and you risk voiding your warranty. Let’s look at why you should have your golf turf installed by a pro following the best practices for artificial turf installation.
WHY PROFESSIONAL ARTIFICIAL GRASS INSTALLATION
Whether you’re interested in adding an artificial golf green to your personal property, or you’re managing a commercial golf course, having artificial turf professionally installed will save you time, headaches, and money — and, long-term, yield a more attractive green.
Saved Time
Even small DIY projects can easily become a big deal. We’ve all been there. Repeat trips to the big box store for tools and supplies we didn’t even know we needed, plans not going to plan, multiple days of hard work? Choosing to have your turf professionally installed, you’ll save so much time, and you’ll enjoy the greens sooner.
In order to install artificial golf greens properly, you need to level the ground, add a crushed aggregate base, add padding, place the turf, add infill, and roll the turf to get the best playability and to make it look realistic. Trimming edges for clean borders is also difficult and takes a good deal of experience to get it right. All of this means you need some specialized tools and knowledge to execute correctly and avoid messy sections and/or edges that start peeling up creating a terrible look.
Difficult Soil/Landscape
An ideal soil is scarce. Many property owners can attest to this. It’s rare to be able to get your shovel into the soil without problems. Instead, we must struggle with stones, clay, or soil overrun with roots from plants and trees nearby in many locations. Digging alone can become grueling work. Worse, if you are digging into roots, you could be killing surrounding plants you might want to keep.
On many of our turf installations, we’ve faced obstacles like large boulders, old (or new) irrigation lines, tree stumps, just to name a few. Each of these items have to be removed or repurposed. Excavation can also produce tons of soil you do not want — where would you go with it? We often have to ship this unwanted soil offsite.
A pro artificial turf installer can address all of this . So if you don’t want to do very challenging manual labor or won’t know how to handle your excavated soil, hiring a professional installer for your project is your best bet.
Large Areas
When installing a golf green in a large area, seaming is one of the trickiest aspects of the turf to install correctly. This is the process of joining two or more pieces together. The process is much like carpet installation, when the seams of artificial turf are done the right way, they’re not noticeable. Seams that are not blended correctly will be easy to see and yield an unattractive finished product.
Imagine this: rolling up a piece of paper or a poster. Do you always get it perfectly aligned when trying to execute a good roll? Sometimes instead of a clean edge, end up with paper sticking out on one side. This same thing can happen with seaming artificial turf. One small mistake in the beginning will throw the whole project off and look awful when finished. Professional installers will have plenty of experience joining seams and they’ll make sure everything looks fantastic before they’re finished.
THE SOUTHWEST GREENS WAY
There are three things that separate Southwest Greens of Nevada from the rest in the turf industry — craftsmanship, guarantees, and customer service. We don’t believe in generic artificial turf installations, and because of that, we’ve mastered the art and the science of Las Vegas artificial turf installation. We have honed our process with over 6,000 golf greens across the globe under our belts.
Here is a quick look at how our artificial putting green installation process works.
- A crushed aggregate base, which, unlike concrete, can be moistened and molded to form challenging breaks and undulations.
- Next, we install a cushion pad, at a minimum, to assist the ball roll and shot absorption, then we bring in our state-of-the-art polypropylene turf material that’s used to recreate the vibrant green color, softness, and playability of real grass.
- The turf is then in-filled with a formulation of fine-coated silica sand that gives it the touch and feel of real grass.
- Finally, roll the tops to make the effect of natural bent grass green. Options available are the installation of first and second cuts fringe, bunkers, sand traps, roughs, and fairways.
