FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Let’s kick it off with a few of the most frequently asked questions we get as we install artificial turf in Las Vegas. Particularly, questions regarding caring for your grass in the over the winter.
WHAT DOES SNOWFALL DO TO SYNTHETIC TURF?
Ice should not have a major impact on your synthetic turf. It’s totally okay to walk or play on it if there is a covering of snow. The blades may lay flat under the weight of the snow, but it typically lifts back up by itself or, in some rare situations, with a little additional help from a power broom. Snow will not change the color or impact the synthetic lawn.
WILL FROST DAMAGE MY ARTIFICIAL TURF?
No, frost won’t harm synthetic turf. The individual grass fiber blade does freeze in intense cold, walking on the grass during the winter would not cause any issues. When spring arrives and there’s no additional chance of frost, you can take a stiff broom to help it back to life.
DO I NEED TO COVER MY SYNTHETIC GRASS?
You do not need to cover your synthetic grass, but you absolutely can if an abnormally severe winter is anticipated in Las Vegas. Just remember that you will not need to cover sections that are being used because snow will make tarps slippery and tricky to walk on.
CAN I SHOVEL SNOW OFF ARTIFICIAL GRASS?
No, you must avoid shoveling snow off your turf except when totally necessary. If you must clean a path, use a handheld blower to take care of any snow or debris.
CAN I USE SALT OR ICE MELT ON MY GRASS?
You should never utilize any ice melt salt on your synthetic turf. Salt can plug up the holes in the backing system and adversely affect your lawn’s drainage capacity. The caustic salt and chemicals can also break down the backing system, resulting in turf blades which start to pull away from the backing. We firmly suggest you to let ice melt by itself for the perfect results.
WILL SNOW MELT FASTER ON ARTIFICIAL TURF?
Artificial grass surfaces can be warmer compared to natural grass, that means that an inch or two of snow will melt quicker than it would on natural grass. Because synthetic grass is evenly spread, it allows better aeration to speed up the snow-melting process.
DOES SYNTHETIC GRASS GET ICY?
Not really, however, like organic grass, some synthetic surfaces can become slippery in freezing weather. Therefore, you must use the same care you do walking on any wintery surface, especially if Las Vegas has been experiencing freezing rain.
WHAT STEPS SHOULD I TAKE BEFORE SNOWFALL?
